Land guidance
Better integration between land use and public transport is increasingly recognised as essential not only for encouraging travel by non car modes but for improving social inclusion for people who do not have access to a car. GMPTE advises planning authorities both on policy documents and significant planning applications, but recognises that this is often too late to influence the outcome effectively. The guidance document 'Land Use Planning and Public Transport' therefore aims to provide local planning authorities and developers with a readily available and regularly updated source of information about encouraging public transport use through the development process and to set out the standards that GMPTE would like to see applied in terms of public transport and new development. The guidance will be updated regularly and in future may include best practice examples - any ideas welcome!
