Bus smokers face £50 fine in crackdown (Manchester Evening News, Monday 24 August)
A crackdown on smoking on buses has been launched after a surge in complaints. Environmental health officers have joined forces with police and company inspectors to hand out £50 fines to people caught lighting up.

Delighted councillors have praised First Bus for re-instating the full 82 service from Manchester to Waterhead. Oldham Councillor Richard Knowles, vice-chairman of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (sic), said: "Local residents were having to change buses in Oldham and pay twice, making their journey much longer and more expensive.
